Your Role
As a lawyer in the Commercial legal team, this initial 12-month fixed term contract will see you working closely with the business and providing commercially-focused, fast paced legal advice in the key functional areas of commercial contracting, procurement, partnering and consumer law, and contribute to a high performing, customer-focused team awarded the 2022 Large Legal Team of the Year (ACC Corporate Lawyer awards).
The role will focus on providing commercial legal support for a broad range of business initiatives in support of IAG’s strategy, with mentoring and support from senior lawyers.
You will be passionate about establishing deep and effective relationships with business partners and peers to understand their business drivers and strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing high-quality, strategic, pragmatic and commercially focused legal and governance advice on commercial contracting, procurement, partnering and consumer law related matters, supported by a senior lawyer.
- Monitoring legislative/regulatory changes and market best practice in key functional areas (commercial contracting, procurement, partnering and consumer law), and providing advice for IAG to proactively identify issues which may impact strategy, operational issues or business processes.
- Managing legal aspects of projects and initiatives, leveraging technology and outsourced service providers (such as external firms and alternative legal service providers) as appropriate.
- Driving results by meeting team and business partner objectives and contributing to team priorities.
- Contributing to building and sustaining a highly effective, collaborative Legal and Company Secretariat (LCS) team, including through feedback and development opportunities, and by continually contributing to the improvement of work systems and processes.
- Performing your role consistently with your duty to the court and the administration of justice, and delivering legal services objectively, competently and diligently, as set out in the Legal Profession Uniform Law Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules 2015.
- Demonstrating strong risk intelligence and contributing to LCS’ risk culture and maturity.

About You
- Legal practice experience 3+ years PQE.
- Well-developed legal skills (e.g. written and oral communication, advisory, drafting and negotiation), customer service and stakeholder management skills.
- Well-developed knowledge and legal practice experience in the areas of commercial contracting, procurement, partnering and consumer law.
- Working knowledge and legal practice experience in the areas of intellectual property, privacy and data.
- Well-developed risk awareness and risk management skills.
- Strong communication, decision making and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to triage multiple priorities and work autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional stakeholder and project management skills with the ability to proactively provide strategic and customer-centric solutions.
- Preferred but not essential: An understanding of general insurance and/or the broader financial services industry.
