Segmentation Product Manager

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experience Segmentation Product Manager to join us here at IAG within the strategy and Innovation Division.  IAG’s Segmentation product provides a deep understanding of customer needs in three categories: life needs; insurance needs; and customer experience needs. The product will enable bespoke analysis powering better-informed decision-making on a wide range of business problems, and direct activation through integration with IAG’s data and digital technology architecture.

The purpose of your role and your unique contribution is to implement and deliver the product experience strategy and roadmap. You will bring an external focus, as well as knowledge of business operations and systems to enable and support IAG’s purpose, strategy and outcomes.

You will work on ambiguous problems areas and apply strategic thinking and creative problem solving to look beyond the here and now and revolutionise the customer experience aligned with IAG’s purpose “to help make your world a safer place

Key Responsibilities: 

Own, develop, enable and execute IAG’s Segmentation product vision, strategy and roadmap aligned with IAG’s Purpose, Strategy and outcomes: 

  • You will provide deep expertise in product management and a strong understanding of customer analytics to advance IAG’s needs-based segmentation product and facilitate its use for both strategic decision making and direct customer activation via IAG’s Single View of X platform. You will develop a strong understanding of IAG’s corporate strategy, and key programmes of work, to define and build enhancements to the segmentation product that facilitate a deep understanding of our customers from our insurance roots, and into our ecosystem vision.
  • The role leads a small huddle that spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides important cross-functional leadership — most notably between Analytics, Data, Digital, Marketing, Distribution, Customer Futures, and Customer Development, across Australia and New Zealand.
  • You are responsible for defining and delivering the why, when, and what of the product. You have a deep understanding of customer needs – in insurance, customer experience and in life more broadly, alongside IAG’s purpose and strategy, which you translate into the segmentation product strategy.


To inspire and foster collaboration with cross functional teams to deliver upon the product vision, strategy and roadmap and facilitate its active use throughout IAG: 

  • You are a visionary leader who shapes world leading customer experiences through cross-functional teams. You are actively promote being data/insight informed and customer centric. 
  • Collaborate with Customer Futures to understand customer strategy, and contribute to its execution through needs-based customer knowledge facilitating digital customer journeys, marketing campaigns, customer experience programmes and product innovation.
  • Collaborate with Analytics and Data to integrate the segmentation product with IAG’s SVx platform as part of the Customer Analytical Profile (SVx CAP).
  • Seek opportunities across IAG to connect initiatives or capability to amplify customer and business value of our needs-based segmentation.
  • Partner key internal & external stakeholders to co-create requirements and success measures, as well as communicating and gaining buy-in to the product vision and road map.


Introduce “Product Usage” as a key capability, define success metrics and ensure delivery against these metrics: 

  • You will develop an approach to measuring the utility of IAG’s segmentation product according to its usage by internal customers, and application to direct customer problems. You will measure the success of the product against this framework, and iterate on the product to continue to improve product performance against these metrics.


Skills & Experience


  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in some combination of product management, market research, and data science.
  • Strong systems thinking skills, ability to connect a product to wider programmes of work, and develop an aligned roadmap.
  • Strong relationship skills, ability to secure support for an aligned roadmap.
  • Passionate about relentlessly solving customer problems.
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to synthesize data from multiple sources. 
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity; prefers an environment which is data driven and customer centric, involves constant ambiguity in a changing and complex atmosphere 
  • Demonstrated commercial and business acumen.
  • Demonstrated technology, engineering and architecture acumen
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, self-motivated and directed
  • Experience with data science techniques including convolutional neural networks, principal component analysis and machine learning.
  • Experience with market research.
