Create impact as an Analyst, Flood Bushfire, Coastal and Climate Risks
Your Role
The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to apply your analytical skills to tackle natural peril challenges facing the insurance industry. As a junior member of the team, you will be exposed to a wide range of opportunities to work with highly experienced experts within the Natural Perils Modelling, Pricing & Engineering Team, as well as in the broader Group Actuarial Team. The key responsibilities of this role will be:
- Support IAG's businesses and customers by helping analyse, interpret, support and maintain risk models for various natural perils.
- Work with local and state governments and other organizations to gather and process hazard and elevation data across Australia and New Zealand.
- Provide general analytical and research support to assist team members with various tasks related to insurance pricing, catastrophe modelling, public policy, integrating risk models with our systems, climate risk, and other issues.
This is a permanent role open to candidates based in Sydney.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience or a keen interest in peril risk, geospatial science, catastrophe modelling or data science.
- Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with concepts relating to peril risk, geospatial data, catastrophe modelling, natural hazards and/or insurance pricing.
- Demonstrated capability to learn new concepts, computing tools and processes.
- Experience in analysis, data management or GIS using Python, SQL, R, QGIS or similar.
- Experience with floodplain, bushfire, coastal and/or climate risk management practices specifically in an Australian and/or New Zealand context would be beneficial but is not mandatory.
