Start the New Year with an exciting new role as an Weather Risk Analyst within our Natural Perils, Modelling, Pricing & Engineering team. This unique opportunity allows you to apply your meteorological, climate, statistical, and analytical knowledge to tackle the insurance industry's natural peril challenges.

 

As a Weather Risk Analyst, you'll play a crucial role in developing and implementing natural peril models for risk-based pricing and reinsurance modelling. You'll assist with weather event classification and reporting, prepare weather outlooks, and provide insights that enable the business to respond to major weather events. Your work will also involve major weather event loss reserving and post-event analyses, as well as applying the latest climate change and meteorological sciences to improve our perils pricing and community risk mitigation strategies.

 

This newly created position offers you the chance to be a pioneer and shape its future. You'll work alongside a diverse range of experts within the Natural Perils Modelling, Pricing & Engineering Team and the broader Group Actuarial Team, benefiting from their extensive experience. Additionally, you'll engage with cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to address real-world challenges, making this an innovative and dynamic environment.

 

This is a permanent full-time position with hybrid working conditions, available at any of our IAG offices across Australia with a preference for those based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney).

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role you’ll ideally have the following skills and experience: 

 

  • Experience in severe weather forecasting, monitoring, reporting, and analyses.
  • Proficiency in using natural perils information for re/insurance analyses and pricing model development.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex, quantitative analysis clearly and effectively.
  • Experience with big data, statistical software packages (R, SAS), and geospatial software (QGIS, ArcGIS, or Mapinfo).
  • Educational background in meteorology, atmospheric science, climate science, or related fields (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).
  • Open to fresh graduates looking to kick start their career in this space.
