Insurance Policy Drafting Specialist

The Role  

The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to provide expert, technical insurance advice to the Segment Leads to ensure that PDS, policy wordings and endorsements take into account the insurance industry's trends, directions, major issues and regulatory considerations and comply with our obligations to legislative requirements. You will also champion the transition of out-of-date wordings into plain English to help our customers better understand their insurance coverage.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and manage the policy wording suite to ensure the range is contemporary with the review lifecycle delivered in a consistent and timely manner
  • To stay abreast of federal, state and local laws and regulations and ensure IAG complies with these laws and regulations
  • Develop and maintain a policy review process that ensures policy wordings are drafted accurately
  • Provide advice to key stakeholders on technical matters where required and updates on changes to statutes, codes and recent court decisions
  • Ensure IAG wordings are developed in clear and simple terms that explains complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the customer segment
  • Prepare PDS and policy wordings that provide solutions for customer needs


Skills & Experience 

  • Experience in commercial and domestic insurance product and underwriting, including market awareness, risk acceptance, product and systems knowledge and legislative requirements
  • Extensive insurance industry experience, a thorough understanding of Australian legislative requirements and the ability to demonstrate a level of knowledge and skills reflective of a senior insurance leader who has progressed within specialist technical and/or operational management positions of increasing responsibility
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Commercial acumen, looking to balance the drive for business improvement with recognition of stakeholder needs
  • Develop, foster and leverage key relationships
  • Relevant undergraduate degree in law or equivalent level of industry experience
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
  • Membership of ANZIIF – desired
