Viability Lead

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who has strong commercial acumen and is passionate about the financial viability of  potential new products and opportunities within and beyond insurance. You will join a team of creative & enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about growing and shaping the future of the IAG digital ventures. 

This role has three core activities:


  1. Defining and assessing markets, trends, business models, and execution pathways to assure the viability of new products, services and businesses
  2. Driving collaboration with Desirability and Feasibility stakeholders to ensure holistic and valuable new business opportunities are identified in line with IAG’s purpose and business requirements
  3. Leading, coaching and mentoring other digital ventures Viability Architects to perform high quality research, produce insightful outputs, and collaborate with Desirability and Feasibility digital venture team members


Key Responsibilities  


  • Ensure all new digital venture proposals are aligned to IAG’s purpose
  • Evangelise the vision and collaboration for Viability across the Firemark Labs digital businesses portfolio
  • Coach and mentor other Viability Architects on new digital business viability ways of working, frameworks, analysis and practices
  • Identify attractive opportunity spaces and imminent disruptions based on market trends, start-up deal flows and expert input
  • Lead market sizing for potential opportunity spaces and solutions
  • Conduct robust market and competitor scans for propositions; identify market headwinds and tailwinds, and detail implications for venture strategy
  • Proactively identify potential impediments to commercialisation and scaling
  • Assess the potential for partners and vendors to contribute to the delivery of new business models
  • Conduct robust pricing research and willingness to pay testing in collaboration with Desirability stream
  • Assess execution pathways and potential acquisition, investment and partnership targets; contribute to the development of the buy/build/partner recommendation for the appropriate governance bodies


Skills & Experience  


  • Resilient and solution oriented, including being comfortable with the ups and downs of innovative work
  • Proven leadership experience in an agile product environment 
  • Experience collaborating and managing across a broad range of stakeholders, internal and external experts and business units
  • Extensive experience incorporating and linking the viability (business value) and desirability (customer want) to the venture feasibility (technology, data, risk and regulatory)
  • Experience identifying, framing and respectfully/constructively challenging customer, business and technology problems
  • Experience sizing new opportunities and leading the development of new business cases
  • Ability to draw insights and financial implications based on customer engagement data to inform business and product innovation
  • Be able to draw insights and financial implications based on customer engagement data to inform business and product innovation
  • Skilled at finding and interpreting consumer research and financial data
  • Strong quantitative modelling skills including developing business cases, financial / business performance forecasting & analysis, pricing models, and market sizing
  • High level understanding of macro-economic, digital marketing metrics and cost-to-serve metrics
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience business or financial analysis roles
  • Involvement in external networks, such as the start-up scene to identify and recruit talent to the innovation program 
  • Experience supporting the financial elements of brining innovative new products and services to market
