Database Administrator

The Role 


We are looking for a Database Administrator to join our Database Services team here at IAG on a permanent basis! You will be part of an Enterprise Services team, that creates market differentiation through deployment of resilient, innovative technology and contemporary methods, at scale.    


For your role to make a difference, you will have skills and experience in at least 1 of IAG’s Strategic DBMS (Oracle, MSSQL, Postgres, DB2 (LUW) DB2 (Z)). Ideally, for this role you will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Database Administration and be experienced with Oracle on both AIX and Windows, with a desire to quickly cross train and learn more DBMs technologies. You will have huge opportunity to develop your capabilities and skills so that they can be utilised more broadly within Technology and IAG. 


Key Responsibilities 


  • Attend regular meetings within the technology to collaborate on projects, operations and emerging themes  

  • Understand team strategy  

  • Implement and Support Database technologies to best practise standards  

  • Troubleshoot when issues arise  

  • Implement Improvements and enhancements to Database solutions in the environment  

  • Monitor the applications and workload managed and supported by the Database team 

  • Maintain operational focus to support all SLAs  

  • On call and Out of hours work may be required at times 


Skills & Experience 


  • Knowledge of Database technologies, Database system design, SQL, writing and review  

  • Information technology experience in a large commercial organisation with multi-platform architecture  

  • Experience in at 1 or more of the strategic Operating systems at IAG (Unix/Linux/Windows/Z/Cloud/Open stack)  

  • Experience in 1 or more of the strategic DBMS at IAG (Oracle, MSSQL, Postgres, DB2 (LUW) DB2 (Z))  

  • Cloud Experience desirable 

  • Technical troubleshooting  

  • Knowledge in Scripting  

  • Exposure to monitoring methodologies and toolsets  

  • Experience working in an Agile environment 

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex technical concepts to business and IT colleagues  

  • Understanding of Software Currency  

  • Knowledge in Disaster Recovery, Backup & Recovering, Data Modelling, Network and storage  

  • Understanding of Cyber, Risk and Audit processes 

  • Backup and recovery, Tivoli experience desirable  

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or related fields  

  • Relevant Industry Qualifications and Certifications are desirable (e.g. Agile, Product Ownership, ITIL, Cloud Certifications, Vendor Certifications (IBM, Microsoft, Oracle)
